Happy Holidays! 2008 Recap....
Instead of writing one of those holiday letters (and wasting all of that paper), I'm hoping many of you have surfed in here after seeing our website on our Christmas card to read our virtual letter!
2008 started out with a new addition to our family! We adopted a retired racing Greyhound, Benny, in January. He is 5 years old, and originally from Florida. Benny takes his retirement very seriously by sleeping 98% of the time, usually with his favorite stuffed animal that he stole from Grandma Bonnie's house, Mr. Bear. We are so happy that Benny has found his forever home with us, he is a very sweet boy!
Emma turned 6 in April and had a "movie theater" birthday party where we turned our TV room (also known as Michael's "man cave") into a movie theater! Complete with red carpet treatment, the kids had popcorn and candy during the movie and didn't even want to eat the giant cake mommy made after the show! The cake was sooo heavy (but also yummy!) and topped off with Great-Grandma's homemade caramel corn. The party was a HIT!
Our summer was filled with mini-vacations that kept us busy. We spent some time at Pappy & Grammy's lake house where Emma learned to swim in the lake and Sam enjoyed having all of the dogs around. Benny even got to experience his first boat ride!
While Lauren was visiting us for 2 weeks in July we took a 3 day trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA. GWL is an indoor water park combined with a lodge featuring very unique rooms and tons of other activities to keep the kids up late and sleeping well! We didn't need to leave for a thing, and you didn't even know what the weather was like most of the time - and who cared? Everything you ever wanted was under one roof! This is our new favorite place, and one we hope to make it back to often.
In August we spent a week in PA in between Aunt Marcie's wedding and Choochie Jill's baby shower. During our stay we also spent a day at Kennywood Park.
The end of August meant back-to-school for Emma, a big First Grader (no longer has to sit at the front of the bus, ha ha). Soccer also started at the end of August. Emma plays for one of the U8 travel teams in Middletown. They finished the regular season undefeated, but most importantly Emma learned a ton!
Sam started preschool in September (sniff sniff) and absolutely loves it! She also played soccer through the rec center. The biggest excitement in September was Emma losing 4 teeth in 8 days!
October is one of our favorite months (momma loves Fall & Halloween), and we had fun during several trips to pumpkin patches! Sam's birthday also falls in October, and the only thing she asked for for her birthday was a "waterslide"..... so we headed back to Great Wolf Lodge!
We spent most of the month anxiously waiting for the arrival of our new cousin.... who finally arrived on October 25! Gavin Hunter Sommers was 8lbs 15oz and 20" long. The girls were so excited to meet him and loved holding him when we visited a week later.
That brings us just about to the present. Everyone is doing well and of course looking forward to Christmas! We'll be in the 'burgh from December 31 to January 4, and hope to get together with as many friends & family as possible. Shoot me an email if you'd like to schedule some time with us, LOL! Love to all, and enjoy the holiday season!
